Residential Electrical Services in Santa Ana, CA

Santa Ana has some of the prettiest old homes in Orange County. Floral Park craftsmans, French Park Victorians, 1920s bungalows shaded by camphor trees nearly as old as the houses. And plenty of them are still running on wiring that went in before your grandparents bought their first car.

That’s where we come in. Express Electrical Services has been doing residential electrical work across Southern California since 1982, and our electricians run calls in Santa Ana every week. Panel upgrades, rewiring, EV chargers, lighting, repairs, the works (here’s the full electrical services list if you want every line item). We’re licensed (California State License #1108382) and insured, you get the price before any work starts, and every job is backed by a lifetime guarantee.

Services We Offer in Santa Ana

Here’s the full list, with a quick word on each. Every one links to its own page if you want the deep dive.

Emergency Electrical Service

Sparks, a burning smell, a panel that just died: that’s a now problem. Emergency electricians answer around the clock, and dispatch can usually have someone at your door within 60 to 90 minutes.

Electrical Repair and Troubleshooting

Troubleshooting is a big one in this city. When a 95-year-old house starts doing something weird with its lights, you want someone who’s seen that exact weirdness before. Ours have.

Panel Upgrades and Replacements

Your panel is the heart of the whole system, and plenty of Santa Ana panels are overdue for a transplant. A panel upgrade gets you 200-amp service and breakers you can trust.

Circuit Breakers and Fuses

A breaker that keeps tripping isn’t being dramatic. It’s protecting you from something, and we’ll figure out what.

Wiring and Rewiring

Whole-home rewiring for the houses that need it, partial rewiring for the ones that don’t. Knob-and-tube, cloth wiring, ungrounded circuits: we replace it all with modern copper.

Outlets, Switches, and GFCI

New outlets and switches, GFCI protection for kitchens and bathrooms, and three-prong upgrades for all those two-prong relics in the older neighborhoods.

Indoor Lighting

Recessed lighting, new fixtures, under-cabinet lights for the kitchen. We handle the wiring and the install, and we make sure your dimmers actually match your bulbs.

Outdoor Lighting and Exterior Electrical

Outdoor and security lighting that makes the front porch glow and the side yard a little less mysterious at 2 AM.

Ceiling Fans and Ventilation

Ceiling fan installation and replacement, including the fan-rated box your current fixture probably doesn’t have. Most of these are one-visit jobs.

EV Charger Installation

A Level 2 EV charger at home means you stop planning your week around public charging stations. We run the dedicated 240-volt circuit, pull the permit, and make sure the panel can handle it.

Surge Protection

Whole-home surge protection at the panel guards every device in the house at once. One small box, a lot fewer dead electronics.

Generators and Backup Power

Standby generators, sized for what you actually need to keep running. Because losing a fridge full of groceries to an outage never stops being annoying.

Home Safety Inspections and Code Compliance

If you’re buying one of these old beauties, book an electrical safety inspection before escrow closes. A written report on the panel, wiring, and grounding costs a lot less than the surprise.

And we handle the unglamorous projects too. A dedicated circuit for the new induction range. A subpanel for the garage workshop. Getting the wiring right on an ADU build so the city signs off the first time.

The Thing About Santa Ana’s Houses

Here’s what makes Santa Ana different from most of Orange County: the age range. You’ve got homes in Floral Park, French Park, and Washington Square pushing 100 years old, postwar tracts from the 50s and 60s filling out the south side, and newer infill scattered in between. Each era comes with its own electrical baggage.

The prewar homes? Knob-and-tube wiring, two-prong outlets that can’t ground anything, and 60-amp fuse boxes sized for a radio and an icebox. Some insurance companies won’t write a policy on a home with active knob-and-tube anymore, which tends to be the moment homeowners stop putting off the rewire.

The 50s and 60s tracts have a different problem, and it’s the panel. Zinsco and Federal Pacific Stab-Lok panels went into thousands of Orange County homes in those decades, and both brands earned a nasty reputation for breakers that don’t trip when they should. A breaker that won’t trip isn’t protecting anything. It’s decoration. If your panel door says Zinsco, or you spot those skinny multicolored Stab-Lok breakers inside, have an electrician look before summer puts it under load.

And then there’s the ADU wave. Homeowners all over Santa Ana are converting garages and adding back units, and nearly every one of those projects hits the same wall: the existing panel doesn’t have the capacity. We size the upgrade, set the subpanel, and run the new circuits so your inspection goes through without drama.

So When Should You Actually Call?

Some signs are obvious. Sparks. A burning smell near an outlet. A breaker that trips the second you reset it. Those are call-today problems, and it’s exactly why we keep emergency electricians on call.

But the quieter signs matter too. Lights that dim when the AC kicks on. An outlet that feels warm. Extension cords doing permanent jobs because the room only has one outlet (super common in older Santa Ana homes, and not a habit to keep). Two-prong outlets anywhere near water. None of those will burn the house down tomorrow. They’re just your electrical system telling you it’s overdue for attention, and the fix is almost always cheaper before it becomes urgent.

Why Santa Ana Homeowners Call Express

We’ve been at this since 1982. That’s long enough to have opened just about every panel brand Southern California ever installed, and long enough to know the fix isn’t always the expensive one. Sometimes a flickering light means the panel is done. Sometimes it’s a loose neutral that takes twenty minutes. Either way, you’ll know what you’re dealing with and what it costs before any work starts. No upselling. If your breaker just needed a reset, that’s what we’ll tell you.

We serve homes all over Santa Ana: Floral Park, French Park, Washington Square, Park Santiago, West Floral Park, Sandpointe, and the neighborhoods around downtown. Book your appointment online and tell us what your house is doing. There’s a good chance we’ve seen it before.
