Fans and Ventilation in Los Angeles, CA

Ceiling fans cut cooling costs, exhaust fans prevent mold, and attic fans keep your roof from turning into an oven. Express Electrical installs, repairs, and replaces every type of residential fan across Los Angeles with proper support, wiring, and controls.

Our Fan and Ventilation Services

Fans move air. Ceiling fans circulate conditioned air to cut cooling costs. Exhaust fans pull moisture out of bathrooms before it turns into mold. Attic fans push superheated air out of your attic so it stops radiating down into your living space. Whole-house fans cool the entire home by pulling cool evening air through open windows. Each type serves a different purpose, and each one needs proper wiring, support, and controls to do its job. Express Electrical installs, repairs, and replaces all of them across Los Angeles.

Why Ceiling Fans Need Electricians

A ceiling fan is not a light fixture. It’s heavier, it vibrates, and it puts continuous rotational stress on the junction box. A standard fixture box is rated for 50 pounds of static weight. A ceiling fan needs a fan-rated box secured to the joist or a rated support bracket spanning the joist cavity.

We install fan-rated boxes on every ceiling fan job, whether we’re putting up a new fan or replacing an old one. If the existing box isn’t rated, we upgrade it. The alternative, a fan mounted on a box that can’t handle the weight, is a fan that wobbles, loosens, and eventually comes down.

Bathroom Ventilation Matters

California building code requires either a window or an exhaust fan in every bathroom. A fan is the better option because it actually removes moisture from the room regardless of weather.

The critical detail that gets missed on many installations is the duct path. The exhaust duct must exit to the exterior of the home, not into the attic. Dumping humid air into the attic creates moisture problems up there instead of in the bathroom. We duct every bathroom fan through an exterior wall or roof vent, properly sealed.

Cooling Your Home Without AC

LA’s climate is perfectly suited for attic fans and whole-house fans. Attic fans run automatically on a thermostat and keep attic temperatures from turning your ceiling into a radiant heater. Whole-house fans give you an alternative to AC on evenings when the temperature drops into the 70s.

The combination of both can reduce AC usage by 30% to 50% during spring and fall months. And unlike AC, fans use a fraction of the energy.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I install a ceiling fan where there’s no existing fixture?

Yes. We run new wiring to the location and install a fan-rated box. In most single-story homes, the wire routes through the attic.

How do I know if I need an attic fan or a whole-house fan?

Different tools for different jobs. An attic fan ventilates only the attic space. A whole-house fan ventilates the entire living area. We can help you decide which (or both) makes sense for your home.

My bathroom fan is loud. Is that normal?

Older fans get louder as bearings wear. Modern fans are significantly quieter. If yours sounds like a jet engine, it’s time for an upgrade.

What areas do you cover?

We serve Los Angeles County, Orange County, Ventura County, and Riverside County.
